The school christened after- the philosopher, social reformer and above all the patriotic saint of India – Swami Vivekananda is situated on a hillock located in the remote hamlet of Palemed in the eastern part of the Malappuram District in Kerala. The school, which had a humble beginning, was founded in the year 1963 as a Lower Primary. It was upgraded as an Upper Primary School in 1967 and as a High School in 1984.It was elevated as a Higher Secondary School with one batch in 1991 and the inauguration of the course was made by the then Industries Minister of Kerala Sri.P K Kunhalikutty. Today Sree Vivekananda Higher Secondary School is the 2nd largest Higher Secondary School in Kerala with about 1500 students in 13 batches.

The school aims at providing for its students quality education, moral and spiritual formation concern for social justice and national integration leading to a meaningful existence. The School will endeavor to inculcate in children, the qualities which make them a total human being and a model citizen.”
